Using specific names – need permission?
Do you need permission to use specific names of games, music, sports teams, sporting equipment, etc on tshirts?
I think it’s fairly common knowledge that you are not supposed to use trademarked and copyrighted things on your shirts (although I see lots of sellers online doing this). But, there are also lots of sellers who doing things in a more creative way… use parodies, altered images, etc. In any case, if you put a shirt on your site and you get a cease and desist email that seems to make a legitimate claim, then I suggest you take it down. All that said, I’m not a lawyer so I can’t tell you what you can and can’t sell. Do a few searches on Google Shopping or eBay, see what other people are selling and you’ll get a sense of what people are doing.
