Selling Secrets: Sell to Social Media Followers Using Current Events
Sell More With Less BS...
There are many articles and posts out there about how to sell to and monetize your social media followers. Much of it is nonsense. Sure, there are good marketers out there… but do they actually make money selling merch? I’ve sold and coached the sales of hundreds of thousands of t-shirts. I’d like you to try to ignore the BS that many people give you and hear me out.
Too many marketing “experts” talk about traditional retail marketing. They talk about promotions, limited time offers, demographic research, contests… yawn. I’m tired thinking about all that work. I’d rather you focus on growing your follower base the way you already know how… and let the merch sell itself.
"Try to ignore the BS that many people give you and hear me out.
Let the merch sell itself.
It's about the products!"
Merch That Sells Itself
It’s about the products! Forget the marketing BS. You know your followers interests. In fact, you are probably already in a niche, which is why you have followers in the first place. You don’t need demographic research. You don’t have to run contests and do promotions. That presumes you have something that is already for sale out there and you’re competing for market share. Don’t do that.
The only “research” you need to do is keyword research. And, by “research”, I mean glance around at a few things.
Okay, what’s my point here? What do you have to do exactly? You need to identify products that your followers want to buy now. Possibly even need to buy! Note: I said identify products that your followers want to buy now. Not what you would be interested in buying. An important distinction. You don’t want to be thinking about yourself and what you would buy… unless you don’t care about making money.
Case In Point: Spirit Day
Let me illustrate by way of example:
Today (October 18, 2018) is Spirit Day. I’m glancing at Twitter photos under #spiritday right now and seeing dozens of images that inspire t-shirt ideas:
And, here’s the thing: if your followers fall into a niche that supports spirit day… they are seeing things they want on a t-shirt too. Guess what? The t-shirts that they want are not available for sale. UNLESS… you design them (or have them designed) and post them to your social media channel now… with a link to your buy page.
If you do this, not only will you sell merch, you’ll sell lots. It will become a significant and meaningful part of your income.
