Pablo Picasso said, "Good artists copy; great artists steal."  A guy named Austin Kleon even wrote a whole book about it.  Now, Picasso was obviously not just ripping off other people's art and selling it as his own.  He was referring to the practice of taking good ideas from others and putting your own spin on it to make something new.

A lot of times, retail is just about seeing what everyone else is doing and doing a variation of it.  Certain colors are in at the same time, certain materials, styles, etc. So take a look at what’s popular and get ideas for your own variations.  Go to some popular sites like Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Jet, WalMart, etc. and search for graphic t shirts.

You’ll start to see all kinds of similar looking shirts.  Come up with some of your own variations based on the popular designs and you’ll have some t-shirts that people will buy.  These are your long-term sellers. The more you have on your site the better.
