Use Sports to Easily Earn an Extra $1000/Month

Baseball Field Panoramic Shot

Today I’m going to teach you how you can make an extra $1,000 a month with very little effort (read this article first, but check How to earn $50K/year selling t-shirts later).  And by the way, an extra thousand a month equals an extra $14,000/year.  Why? Consider December to be worth three months worth of sales.

Passion + Current Event = Sales.

Let me break down the variables from a sports perspective:

Passion

You are passionate about your team, a player on your team, and/or everything your team stands for.  You may be passionate about your team for reasons you don’t even understand. When your team loses you tell yourself you’re not going to be so obsessed with your team next year.  But you are. You have friends and family that think you’re insane. And maybe you are. But it doesn’t matter. You will fly your colors. You are high when “we” are winning and low when “they” are losing.  But you keep coming back, and you keep buying t-shirts. Sports fans are some of the most passionate fans out there!

Current Events

Here are some examples that fuel the above passion:

  • Your team wins
  • A star player has a big night
  • Your team is an underdog and wins big
  • A journeyman player has a huge night
  • Your player or team wins a championship
  • A player or coach makes an outrageous quote
  • A play, player, or coach becomes a meme
  • Something wild or whacky happens in the world of sports
  • etc.

These combinations of things create significant t-shirt purchasing drive.  Think about all the different types of sports and all the different fans. Mainstream sports like football, baseball, and basketball. Northern sports like hockey and state-centric sports like jai-alai.  Then there are the niche sports/games like darts, go kart racing, bowling, badminton, etc. Finally, you’ve got your world sports like tennis, golf, and soccer.

The market for sports t-shirts is enormous.  And with the ability to sell via a dropshipper, you have the opportunity to create income in a very modern and unique way.

Let's Do The Math

First a little math, then a step by step guide.

To make $1,000 a month you need to sell around 120 shirts, or around 4 shirts a day.  To do that you’ll need around 1,500 long-term sellers on your site and 10 new hot sellers a month (See my article here about hot sellers vs long-term sellers).  Now, these numbers are just guidelines.  If you’re good at picking winners, you may need significantly fewer shirts.  If you’re average at it, you may need more. But let’s use this as a baseline.  I just looked at the numbers on a few different sites and came to this average. In any case, you’ll figure out your own numbers once you start putting shirts on your site.  And by the way, if your store is not set up yet… please, let us do it for you quick. So, let’s start with the long-term sellers.  You’re going to want to keep this simple. To get 1500 long term sellers on your site in a year, you’ll need to get 4 or 5 shirts a day on your site.  That’s not hard. I’d think bigger. Think in terms of templates. A templates is a single theme in which you can insert different text or images to come up with multiple shirts.  Here are three examples. I’m not suggesting you copy these examples, just do a Google search for “funny soccer shirt”, “funny baseball shirts”, etc. and look at the images. You’ll get lots of ideas.  You’ll want to do your own unique thing. You can get inspired by the shirts that you see and just come up with your own variation.

So, using these three templates as examples, you could come up with many thousands of shirts.  According to Wikipedia there are over 8,000 sports and games (do a Google search later… you’ll find them).  So, find your own three templates, come up with a list of 500 sports/games and make your 1500 shirts. You could do it in a week if you set your mind to it.  If you’re not sure how to do it yourself, as always, check out T Shirt Design Service.  They could get these done for you in a couple of days for *way* less money than you’d think.

Okay, the 1500 long term sellers is easy.  Now, about those hot sellers. You need this to:

  1. Get some shirts on there that actually might sell in bunches

  2. Get some current event based keywords in your titles that will draw traffic to your site that will help your long-term sellers sell.  This is what separates you from the pack!

If you’re a Premium member, you’ll get frequent emails sent to you that will give you ideas for hot sellers.  For the sake of this article, I’m going to give you one. I’m going to Twitter right now to see what’s trending as I’m writing this… hold on!

OK, I’m back.  I was away for about 40 seconds.  I saw that the Washington Capitals and Vegas Golden Knights are playing in the Stanley Cup Finals.  T. J. Oshie, Caps player is trending. How about a shirt in Washington colors that says “Oshie for President, 2020”?  The shirt would be based on a topic that’s trending right now. Look through the Twitter articles and you’ll find trending keywords to include in the title.

So, it took me 40 seconds to come up with that idea.  I said you need 10 of these a month. Do you have 40 seconds times 10, or 7 minutes a month to come up with ideas?  If you know Photoshop, GIMP, or Paint.net you’ll need another few hours to actually make the shirts. Otherwise, you’ll need to outsource a graphic designer.  See this article if you need info about outsourcing: How to Get Designs Done Cheap.

That’s it.  That’s all there is to it.  Now, I *know* that most new sellers think… “I could never come up with ideas the way Steve does!”  Well, maybe you can’t at first. That’s why I’m here. If you’re a Premium member, you can just ask me if you have an idea.  Bounce things off me. Or, just read the hot-seller tip emails that I’ll send to you. You’re not going to have a problem with ideas!

The most important thing to do… is get started!
